My son got to meet one of his favorite authors today.. Chris Van Dusen

Today I took the day off from blogging to just sit back and enjoy the kiddies. What a great start! At 10:00 am, the middle son (the spaz ) and I, went with my mother to a book signing with Chris Van Dusen. Spaz is an amazing reader and a little different for a 5 year old, and besides Dr.Seuss..Chris Van Dusen is it for this kid. And I can understand why. This guy has amazing talent for writing and illustrating childrens books.
His most well known book is The Circus Ship. Very loosely based on a true event, it tells of a circus ship under the control of a mean circus leader. The ship sinks at sea and the animals were left to die in the water. They ended up swimming to an island and making friends with the inhabitants after the tiger saves a little girl in a fire. It is in a wonderfully smooth rhyme just like the rest of Chris Van Dusen's books. He has a series with a character called Mr. Magee and his little dog Dee. What I love about his books is that he has common 'threads' that intertwine through all the stories. In all the Magee books you can see the same Daisy truck somewhere in it's pages. In the books outside of the Magee series, you can spot Magee and his dog Dee somewhere as an onlooker. It's like finding Waldo. A great little detail. In his book If I Built A Car you can see his own Magee books on the little boys bookshelf in his room. The pictures are beautiful and the stories are quite charming. His Circus Ship has been around a few years now and is now catching fire, and I see great things for this writer. My son (after Christmas) will have a total of 3 autographed Chris Van Dusen books. I know he's going to cherish them.
When signing the books, Chris went up and beyond by writing a personalized message and drawing something cute next to it.  My son, even though he loves his books, was very quiet when meeting him lol. I am not sure if he fully grasped that Chris was the one who made the book or not, but he was very proud of his autographs once we were in the car. He gave big hugs and kisses and just held them a little while. I don't really put much everyday personal posts on this blog, but I just wanted to share why I was quiet today and gush about a Maine author that is making us proud. I know his future is big and I hope you check him out! Click here to go see his site and read some on his books and biography. Tomorrow people ... I'm on the hop again lol. Maybe I'll attack your comment box! Have a great day.
