Time is just flying by. Thanksgiving has just passed, soon Christmas will be speeding by as well and that paves way for the new year to begin. What comes with the new year? Resolutions of course! A couple of the top resolutions that people have is to quit smoking and lose weight. My husband and I have been trying to quit for years. The last attempt I made, I really thought I had it licked. Since I am a busy mom of 3 boys, I rarely have time for pampering myself. Every once in a blue moon I will hit the salon for a new do or I get a freebie from a family member who needs to have some practice =) While I enjoy getting pampered, I just can't fit it in my schedule or my budget most of the time. Today's feature is all about taking the time for yourself in the form of homemade milled soaps, scrubs, balms, lotions and glosses. I originally started looking at how to make homemade soap. As great as it sounds to make your own scents and not have to buy them in the store, I realized I will need to get some equipment and learn more about lye since it is so caustic and I have kids. One thing I did learn though is the reason behind homemade soap being so much more moisturizing than store bought brands. The glycerin is taken out of store bought soap to be sold as a by product by companies making higher end lotions. Well this makes sense doesn't it? Homemade soap has the glycerin still in it so you are getting all that lovely softness to yourself!

I got a chance to review one of Angela's lovely gift packs. Mine included Pink Carnation soap, Lavender Organic Sugar Scrub, Lilac Body Butter, Mocha Latte Lava Lip gloss and she threw in a Chocolate Almond Lip Balm. This is what the kit looks like in its packaging.

If you are a loyal reader, you know that I am obsessed with two things.... coffee and lilacs, hence the reason for them making an appearance in my header! I'm gonna gush over my favorite item first because honestly.. I can barely contain my excitement! Being such a fan of lilacs.. I am really picky when it comes to products that are labeled with that scent when I can even find that. Lilac is a hard to find scent and if it is spotted, it rarely smells authentic. It usually comes close but doesn't quite cut it for me. About ten years ago my cousin got me a solid perfume from some catalog and I couldn't stop smelling or wearing it. It was spot on but it was small, didn't last long and she couldn't remember where she got it. So I have been searching for something ever since and FINALLY my search is over! Angela has nailed it! Her Lilac Body Butter smells like you actually have your head buried in a bouquet of lilacs! Anyone that loves the scent as much as I do.. this is a must have and did I mention it's vegan friendly?! My mother came to visit and as soon as she smelled this butter she asked me about putting in an order for her. 

A little goes a long way you can wear it like solid perfume or apply it everywhere after a shower. Let me just tell you... after an organic sugar scrub ... this butter makes you feel like you just went to Heaven! What else is great is that Angela said she can make custom orders such as lilac soaps, lotions and balms and won't charge any extra because she loves doing it! But about that sugar scrub... lets talk about that next!

The organic sugar scrub is my next favorite item in the set. I do love lavender and see why this scent is everywhere, in fact I have dream pillows with lavender in them to aid me in sweet dreams. The aroma of her Lavender's sugar scrub is nothing short of amazing and the effect it has on you is even better. I have had a swollen foot for a month now.. it happened to my other foot a year ago. Two x-rays and an mri has showed nothing but I actually had some blood work done today and hope I have answers tomorrow. The swelling is very uncomfortable at times and so is the medication I have to take for it. I took a shower night before last and treated myself to organic sugar scrub and the relief I got from this scrub on that foot is beyond words. It exfoliated which felt great but since it is organic sugar, it melted right into the skin and left my skin feeling new and creamy. After the shower I used the lilac butter and as I said before.... heaven! Pure delight! Ladies, you need to try these out or get a set or two as Christmas gifts. Now just because I am leaving the soap and lip products till last takes nothing away from the quality of these products as well. The balm worked well on my chapped lips and tasted great too and the lava lip gloss smells better than it tastes but is lovely all the same. I love the high gloss it adds and it really does smell great. I couldn't quite pin point the familiar smell I got from the soap, it wasn't quite carnations but a very comforting and homey smell that could have been found in my mother's or grandmothers bathroom. 

I don't know if my opinions have been shown enough here or if my enthusiasm over Angela's products got through but I am on cloud 9 knowing that I have found that incredibly rare lilac aroma that I have been searching for for sooooo long! Now that my youngest son is in Kindergarten, I need to go back to square and remind him on a daily basis to bring stuff back home and wear a jacket so he don't catch a cold. Let me tell you of my experience using this kit.

First off, I have very sensitive skin. Almost anything makes it break out. It is very frustrating. I read the instruction kit but made one mistake in the beginning. You are supposed to start off the first 2 days (night and  evening) applying the smoothing cream. You want to get your skin prepared to start receiving the treatments. After the first 2 days you then add the other products. You first use the serums and then let it completely soak in before adding the cream. I did this wrong at first but quickly saw I was doing it wrong. Luckily I didn't waste much at all because a little bit goes a long ways. This is always great with cream or lotion. More bang for the buck.

However, that was not the only issue I had. I also started breaking out like crazy and felt irritation all over my face. My face felt warm and inflamed all over. I talked to a lovely lady at Dermagist and she let me know that my skin is probably just trying to get used to it and to go ahead and keep trying it out. It wasn't so uncomfortable that I didn't want to listen. I could feel tightening and hydration, I just hated the warm irritated feeling. Sure enough after about a week and 1/2 of using it, the irritation was gone and I my face started feeling really nice. My skin felt so hydrated, and dryness has always been an issue with me. I either seem to have it dry or flaky or it seems to be so oily and blemished. The best way to describe the feeling while using the products is tight but smooth.

I felt the most effect with the instant lift and the smoothing cream. I don't see how anyone couldn't benefit from the instant lift dabbed around their eyes. It makes you feel younger right off and spruces you more awake and gets rid of that tired and dragging look.

I am glad that I stuck it out and let my skin get used to the system because I can tell that I will be using this long term. I know this will help keep the wrinkles at bay and just the for the hydration alone, I love it! I have gotten my husband's aunt to try it as well and she is also loving it. I have always loved sunglasses but before I found out I had astigmatism, I would only wear them in short amounts of time because I felt my senses were hindered or something. It was weird. Then there was the style. Even though lots of people seemed to love their shades, the only style that looked right on my face were aviator. I didn't love that. However, I have grown to like the more over sized frames and search them out for the tints.

Oofos review and giveaway!

Yay! It is flip flop weather! As much as I can't stand being sticky hot, I love being able to throw on a good pair of flip flops or sandals and run out the door. Lots of things to do in the summer and so little time, you shouldn't have to worry about your footwear being comfortable or hard to keep up with you. So did I feel the OO? Here are my honest thoughts:

I received the OOriginal Thong in size M (6-7) in the color fuschia.

Pros:

Immediately I fell in love with the feel of these sandals. You just bounce around. It feels so nice not having your feet feel the impact of your weight, these sandals almost give you an anti-gravity feel. The foam is amazing! I'm not the only one that thought so either. My 10 year old and his neighbor friends (11 and 12 year old boys) saw my Oofos sitting by my computer desk and tried them on. Each one of them had to have a turn because the first one said they are 'cool' and they had to try them. I didn't even have to set this up! They are a bright pink and this didn't stop the boys from saying they were 'cool' lol.

Oofos are energizing, comfortable, stylish, practical and universal. With normal flip flops I feel that I need to crunch my toes to keep them on, with these I don't feel that way at all. They hug my feet just right with the sides that go up and the arch in the middle. There is really no effort at all in wearing these and they are machine washable! Enough said there right?

So what are my cons?

My sister let my try hers on and she had ordered the same size but hers came larger. It was because of her shoes I picked the size I did but for some reason even though hers and mine were both OOriginal thongs, they were not the same length or width. Even though this makes it a tad bit more difficult to know your exact size, with these particular shoes, I can't imagine it would make much of a difference. Mine were smaller but still extremely comfortable and hugged my feet.

The other con I experienced has nothing to do with the company but with my weird feet issues. If I had really thought it through, I would have tried the slip on version and not the thong. I had mentioned that I have poor circulation, well .. let me show you....

Here is a picture of my feet. See that really ugly vein popping out of my foot? Well it just so happens that the thong part of the sandal perfectly irritates this vein and when I wear it for a long period of time I get sharp pains in my foot and it got so bad I was limping around everywhere. Do not let you stop this from feeling the OO though because if you have a similar issue, I just strongly recommend getting the slip on version!

There are too many great things about these shoes to not try them out. I have very specific and unique issues with my feet and I can't imagine you would experience these same problems. I still love and wear my Oofos, I am just not wearing them as long at a time and working on stretching them a tad so that it does not irritate this vein. Now that school is going to be ending and sports have been well underway, everything is getting super hectic and I am on my feet a lot! I remember when I used to wait on tables that when I got home, my feet would be throbbing and it would take a while to get it to go away. First off, let me show you some spots in my car. The first picture is a spot of ink that was on my visor over my drivers seat. A pen must have exploded up there, honestly I don't remember lol but I do know that it was definitely ink. Here is the before and after photos of when I steam cleaned it.

I apologize this video is so fuzzy. My friend was recording it for me and she is not familiar with my camera. If you zoom in too close the quality stinks. Now, I have read many reviews on this mop to see what others were saying and I found a few that were either completely unhappy or had some complaints. I would like to tackle some of them. First off, to say that this mop is completely useless, even though it is an opinion that someone has a right to, I think that that statement is ridiculous. I have not stopped finding uses for this mop. The complaints about the cord not being long enough or not having an easy way to wind it to put the mop away were valid but this mop has updated features. It was plenty long enough for me (it won't reach real large kitchens) but honestly then you will have too much cord to wrap up. The clips that hold the cord could be larger. This is a valid irritation but whatever. I'm not going to gripe about that when this has become my best friend in the house work department.One thing I want to say is that it was kind of frustrating at times when the steam went in and out. I found out through the manual that when you mix vinegar in the water and let it run through it may help. It did and worked fine after.
