This is my 3 year old that is nicknamed "Lil Riot". As you can see from the pictures he has quite a personality. He has out right told me that he has no intention of going on the potty. Ok, not in those words... what he said was... "No, I like my diapers. I can't go on the potty" I know that this is because of pure laziness and the freedom of being able to go wherever and whenever.
He looks up to his 5 year old brother and loves him to death. He's constantly asking me when he can go to school like 'Spaz'. So an idea occurs to me. "You know", I say, "You can't go to school like 'Spaz' until you use the potty by yourself" This worked! But, only for one real try. After that he was back to saying 'nah'.
So I pulled out the guns of bribing. "If you go on the potty, Mommy will take you to the store and you can pick out your own big boy underwear like 'Spaz'!" He replies.."Can they be lightning maqueen dinaco blue underwear?" I say we'll look! But first he's gotta go on the potty. He seems to put in a little more effort. I go and buy some Lightning Maqueen underwear... but alas, they have no dinaco blue. I think this may be why he has had 4 "accidents" since getting them.
My dear Lil Riot is ready to be potty trained. How do I know this? His understanding on it, and how he thinks passing gas while Mommy changes him is funny. If he can do that on command and think its hilarious, he can go on the potty can't he??? I would looooooove some fresh ideas to introduce to this lil man. Do you have any? Share your potty training struggle and how you got through it please :) Especially if you have stubborn little men who is irritatingly hilarious!

Hey lady! Stopping by to return the follow! I am now following you! I am sorry to say I have no potty training tips for you my little men are too young! I have heard that switching to cloth diapers help them to know when they go potty vs just feeling it in a normal disposable diaper. No clue... but good luck mama! haha

It's my opinion that sugar is the world's greatest motivator.
I would dole out some kind of candies for potty events. And there would be no other sweets, so any little sugar addict will certainly decide toilet tricks are where it's at.
Soft drinks, too. One special drink per day if potty training is on track.

I don't have a good trick, other than asking him if he's ready (we haven't quite reached it yet), but I'm loving reading everyone else's suggestions. I'm filing them away.

One thing I did and it might work if he loves Lightening McQueen. Make a racetrack on a piece of paper and find Cars stickers. There are different spots along the track like (pitstop might be getting to go to ice cream out), then on the crowd you have a (get to get buy a lightening car)...I used 3 pieces of 8.5 x 11 papers taped to make a long track. It might be just the thing and my son was also 3 when he finally did it. Good luck! :)

GFC follower. I feel your pain. I had an awful time with my son. The only thing that finally worked for my was making him clean himself and put on a new diaper by himself. It was messy, but it only happened twice and he decided he might like to go on the potty. awitherstine at gmail dot com

Well I don't have boys (we have 3 girls) but my two older girls we're both potty trained before their 2nd birthday (hope to with #3 as well). Here are a few things that we're helpful for me. The book Potty Training For Dummies was great. But really what helped me a ton was I got a couple of packs of those think linked undies (there just plain) But I had our girls wear those ALL of the time and put diapers on for nap time or bed time. We had many accidents but it helped to signal for both of us when she was needing to go potty. This might be harder sense he's a boy but I also took them to the bathroom with me everytime I went so they could sit on their potty as well.
Good luck! I'm a new follower too :)
I'm not done potty training my almost 3 year old but we had a set back do to a baby brother born last summer. A couple things I would advice are: Try to get him in the bathroom with a big brother and dad.. so he can watch them go. I would also recommend trying to teach him pee while standing - in a big or small potty. Sometimes they just don't like sitting down. The one thing that helped us was I let my son run around naked at home - so when he felt the need to go, he could just run into the bathroom. But then any time I put a diaper on, he'd just go in the diaper. So I bought the thick Gerber underwear. When he started going, he'd feel getting wet and he would learn to control it. The first time I put the underwear on him, we used up six of them in a few hours, but I think then it clicked! Good luck!

my just turned 3 year old little guy is in the midst of potty training. we started on a small potty and he got treats every time he peed or pooped--like m&m's--he did really well, but my problem with him {and we've been steadily training since the new year} is he is only successful if he is buck-naked all day long. if he puts underwear and pants on, he has an accident. so i have a little naked boy running around all day long---it proves to be a problem going places...hopefully i can get him to keep underwear on in the VERY near future!
good luck--this potty training thing is WAY harder than I thought it would be! :/
