Curiosities of the Civil War book review

I decided to go a different route with my choice of book this time for review then my usual inspirational reads. I am glad I did. You need to change it up sometimes to keep you interested ( cause I am way to fickle with my hobbies). First off, this book is a very sturdy book with a nice hard cover. The cover is very nice looking with gold accents throughout the lettering and pictures. Webb Garrison has gathered all sorts of the forgotten, ignored, or bizarre factoids during the Civil War.

The very first thing I learned was about a habit of one of our favorite presidents, Abraham Lincoln. Did you know that since he was so tall, he would measure all the tall men he came across back to back and see if they topped him. He was barely ever beaten, but he would grab them on short notice to stand next to him during ceremonies. Probably so he didn't feel so much like a giant. (My opinion though, he should of picked a shorter hat too).

Did you know that horses would tip the calvary men off that an enemy was near by twitching its ears? When the ears started flickering, the men shortly came across their foe. The men also used the poor things as barricades on the battle field. They worked quite well I guess. A wounded soldier who lost his leg and thought never to be battling or even walking again, found a wooden leg on a dead body and hobbled back on the field shocking everyone.

These kinds of stories bring these people alive again. It's one thing to hear all the military lingo and let it pass through without a second thought, it is another when we hear the everyday notes that make them seem more human. The characters shine and none of this is fiction. There is so many interesting things in this book, you don't have to be a history or Civil War buff to enjoy it but you if you are one, then this book is a must have. Yet again, I nabbed another great read.

Buy yourself a copy here.

I received this book from Booksneeze in exchange for my 100% honest opinion.

What an interesting book of tidbits. I love these kinds of stories. It reminds us that these were normal people with quirks.
