Where did the phrase the Bee's Knees even come from? It never made any sense to me. For the last couple of days I have meant to look this up but keep putting it off. I guess there is no real certain origin for this phrase but two theories tend to be popular. Since I am sure that more than just me wonder about this saying, here's what I found out...
The two most popular theories on this phrase are:
1: Dating back to the 20's, along with "The Cat's whiskers" and other silly sayings, the phrase "The Bee's Knees" refers to a bee carrying the pollen in the mid-sections of their legs. So the illustration was meant to say that is is something of importance, or 'height of excellence' ...."Don't that just beat all" kind of thing.
2. The other theory is that is was the term 'The Be All's and End All's' shortened to 'The B's and E's' mispronounced and recalled 'Bee's Knees'. I can totally see this by the way.. A drunk office guy all ticked off, maybe he lost his job... went out to get a drink. He then drank to much and was talking about the B's 'n E's of corrupted business. Ha ha.... and since then everyone has thought it just a great saying and uses it for height of excellence.
Anything can catch on! Hope you enjoyed the little factoid today :) Here are some blog hops I am participating in..
