Awakening by Stovall Weems - a book review

Even though I may step outside my comfort zone from time to time when I see ones diving into their faith strongly, I truly believe it is real and get jealous of ones that can be that free with it. I have always been curious about fasting (knowing in my heart it works) but have never tried it because I didn't know how and thought there is no way someone can just go without eating for that long. I always wondered how people knew to eat at certain times and just didn't know how to get it right.

When I first got Awakening by Stovall Weems, I thought it was going to tell me how to get back to how I felt in the beginning of my faith and keep it up. I didn't know how it was going to help me do that but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it went over fasting and gave meal plans! I have asked people and looked it up online and never got the clear answers that I found in Awakening. This book gives you the instructions on biblical fasting. Then it launches into testimonies of people who have done it and what it has done for them.

I mean, thinking of fasting on a whole, why wouldn't it work? When you rid your body of all the temptations you face (with me it would be coffee and cigarettes mainly.. I know :/ I am trying to quit!) but when you rid your body of that and pray or even just meditate.. you get yourself in such a peaceful mindset. This is how I know that there is truth to fasting and prayer. I have also had enough experiences in my life to witness the faith in this practice. The last one being when my father in law was on death's doorstep. He had gone into septic shock and everything but his mother prayed in tongues over him and fasted. He pulled through amazingly after being on life support for over a month.

I am very thankful to have this book in my collection. How exactly do I fast without being drained? What is it all about? How do I get my relationship with God to be like it was in my new faith?
