Rockboard Scooter - a scooter that rocks! ( review)

When I think of scooters, I think of those "kinda fun" two-wheeled contraptions that you keep kicking with your feet or the hover round scooters for the elders :) I love keeping the boys active and they love being monkeys and stunt gurus. I came across a very cool looking scooter that kicked the old idea up a notch and we had to check it out!

Rockboard Scooters are the new and improved scooters you can find right at Target. The difference you find with Rockerboard is that it can be used in the kick scooter mode or it can be in "rockboarding" mode to rock it out. I thought this was really neat because you don't have to keep kicking off and it gives you a great thigh work out at the same time. Kids may not care about that part but you care about your kids being active.

We had the amazing opportunity of reviewing the original Rockboard Scooter and boy oh boy, we couldn't have been any more excited! It came in lightening speed and had the scooter (which can fold right down for easy carrying, a wrap around handled carrier and a nice RB hat (which you can see Spaz wearing in the top picture). The scooter is nice and heavy and you can tell it is well made. My husband let me know we had a great find because even our 9 year old that is hard on everything should be able to use this and pass it on. He was definitely impressed. (He's not easily impressed in that way :)

They have two different sizes. The mini was designed for the smaller fans holding up to 99 pounds (5+ years) . The full one that we received can hold up to 200 pounds and is geared for 9 years or older. So my husband and I can play around on it and not worry about damaging it. (Which we have :P) My youngest son, who's 4, loves bikes but he doesn't do the peddling yet and maybe a scooter is just what he would need. So I was thinking of the mini for the him, but now that I see how the rocking works, I don't think he is quite ready for that feature yet. It is an awesome idea but it's like some pedal cars.. it seems that when the kids are finally big enough to get use them, they are too big for the car lol. Maybe it's just my short little on

Above I have some pictures to show you some of the features this scooter has.

Pic 1:  Folded position. This will be how it comes in the box and for easy carrying.

Pic 2: That is a picture of the adjustment knob. You turn this to (a) unlock the handle bars to unfold (b) adjust where you want the handle bars (c) lock it into place.

Pic 3: The great little convenient wrap (don't even know the correct term for it).. but it can wrap around the scooter and attaches with velcro to give you easy handles to pick up.

Pick 4:  This shows you the handlebar locking coupler. It is simply where you lock the handlebars into place or unlock to fold down for travel.

There are a few more things that are not in the above pictures. Let me go through the steps of how you would unfold it, set it up, etc.

When you first get the scooter, unfold it and secure it into "Rockboarding" mode. You do this by placing it on a level surface. Turn the adjustment knob counter-clockwise until the front wheel and handlebars can rotate freely. It says to align with orange, but mine is red and I would say whatever position is more comfortable. With the scooter upright and one hand on the downpipe and pull up on the front of the rockboard while allowing it to slowly roll forward. You should see the board release into "rockboarding" mode.

Then to "Get your rock on" you make sure that the board is in the down position in the rear. Keep one foot in back and push off with the other. Once you get your speed going, lean forward with weight to push down on the rockboard. Then use the rear leg and weight to push back down and keep doing this. You should be rocking back and forth.

To transform from "rockboarding" mode to kick scooter mode, just kneel down with your right knee on the back end of the rockboard. Pull out the quick release pictured above and slowly let the scooter roll forward. Turn the adjustment knob to the blue and lock into place. Viola! The orginal scooter is back.

It doesn't stop there though! Rockboard is working on getting their online garage up so keep your eye on that! What's the garage for you ask? Well, soon you will be able to get all sorts of RB accessories to really trick out your scooter and make it unique to your child's personality. You think Bey Blades are addicting? Wait till your kids get the Rockboard fever. I already know what we have started in our house hold. And you know what? I am completely ok with it since it is a great activity/ sport :)

To get your own Rockboard Scooter, you can purchase the full size or mini at Target.com and get free shipping. That helps! Don't think it's too early to think about the upcoming holidays. Believe me, your kid is going to love unwrapping this and starting to customize it.
