Inside The Cover: A Whisper Of Peace by Kim Vogel Sawyer

A Whisper Of Peace
Written by Kim Vogel Sawyer
From Bethany House Publishers

A Whisper Of Peace is a charming story that takes place in a beautiful Alaskan setting. This book has many lovable characters including: Clay, a missionary in hopes to start a church and touch the hearts of the Athabascan people; Vivian, a tag along stepsister who is determined to find redemption due to a trouble past and Lizzy, an entrancing Athabascan woman, who was ostracized by her tribe for reasons that were beyond her power to change.

Just as his father had, Clay Selby dreamed of going on a mission and building a church to bring strangers to God. He chose to go after this dream with the Athabascan people that lived in the Alaskan wilderness. With a meager budget and accordian in hand, he sets out with his stepsister Vivian. She's not much for wilderness but seeks solitude and redemption for an accident that happened when she was young. She hopes that travelling with Clay and helping the natives will bring peace and give her a chance to give back.

They arrive in Gwichyaa Saa and it does not take them long to start building their huts and the mission church. The natives find that Clay and Vivian living among them and starting a mission is a fair trade for the English tongue. However, when the visiting missionaries happen upon a beautiful woman named Lizzy who lives by herself, their instinct to reach out and help kick in. The Athbascans have cast her out and do not like to speak of her at all, especially Lizzy's grandparents. Her grandfather, the leader of the tribe, makes it quite clear that Clay and Vivian have residence among them as long as they do not have anything to do with Lizzy.

What could have been so bad that Lizzy's own grandparents won't even speak her name? Finding it harder and harder to turn their backs, will Clay and Vivian be able to honor the stipulation that the leaders have put in place?

My thoughts

I love reading Christian fiction because it can take me away to different places and fall in love with many characters, while dropping little gems of faith along the way. This book was quite charming and definitely had a feel good message to it.
I did not turn into the page turner that I was hoping for, but more of a cozy nights read that quite enjoyable. I was very pleased with how it ended although I think more could have been added. It seemed a little easy to get at the outcome but was nice all the same.
