A family that eats together stays together. No matter what kind or size family you have, this is such a true statement. In our household we don't eat together enough. Daddy is always working at supper time and one of the boys is gone every other weekend. We don't have the opportunity as much as I would like to bond over a family meal even though it is important to me.
Now that the oldest is 10 and the youngest boy is 4 (almost 5), it is about time that I step back a little and start pulling them into the preparation of dinner time and maybe even some cooking. I have to admit. I actually have a thing about that. I am very .... very.... skeptical of kids being clean when they cook so I don't let them do enough with the meals. However, I now have a great book in The Handstand Kids series that pulls my kids right into making meals and not have me so anxious about it! We tried out the Mexican Cookbook Kit. However, we got a great little spatula instead of the oven mitt.
These books are great! They have lovable characters that the kids can relate to that pop up throughout the book showing off their personalities. They also teach you different languages and gives you a sense of the culture. We have tried out a couple of the recipes so far. We made the Holy Frijoles! Bean & Cheese Burrito and the Apple-Licious Taquitos. Both were very easy to do with not too many ingredients with a yummy kid friendly appeal to them. Did I mention they were delicious?

Broken up into sections like most cook books, in this one there are avocados indicating how difficult the recipe is. So they will be able to know right away if they can do it by themselves or if they need Mom or Dad's help!
The boys loved helping and trying out what they were a part of making. It was a hands on experience for them and a family fun event as well. These kits go for $25.00 and these make great gifts... especially for any little aspiring cook out there! You can also buy the accessories such as the hat and aprons separately ranging from $8.00 - $20.00.
