How great is it when you have a great bed with new and comfortable bedding? One of the best simple pleasures out there. Now how fast can that all get ruined by a little one crawling into bed and having an accident? You may be able to clean it up the first few times but after a while we all know how it goes. It starts to have an odor and it just doesn't feel as clean.
My youngest is certainly old enough not to have accidents anymore and sleep in his own bed, however, both him and his brother still try to sneak in every night. Every once in a while they will have had too much to drink before bed and end up having an accident that Mommy gets to wake up to and clean.
A king size mattress and it's bedding is not cheap! I have tried everything to get them into their own beds to stop this but I just don't wake up every time so something needed to be done. I decided to try out the vinyl mattress cover from shopbedding.com, the exclusive bedding shop online. This way, until the accidents stop, I can protect our mattress if nothing else.
It took no time at all for the cover to get here and I quickly went to put it on. The only difficult part of this was just handling my mattress in general. It was actually surprisingly easy to put on and zipped up at the top. Before I got it all the way on, I made a video to show you how waterproof it is. In the clip below, you can see that I am just dumping water on my bed over the cover. I then lift the cover to show you it does not go through to the bed. Even sitting for a few minutes did not allow it to leak through.
Since I have gotten the cover on my bed, my son has had 2 more accidents. Even though it is still a pain in the butt to go and have my comforter and sheets washed, it saved a tremendous amount of time since I didn't need to steam clean my bed. For a king size bed this cover only costs $18.99. With this price it is definitely worth it to me to have a couple stocked up on hand in case it tears. This is a great investment if your child has accidents to put on their bed or your own if they sneak in at night.
The vinyl is not as uncomfortable as it would seem and it doesn't do that loud crinkly sound either. I was a little disappointed that I found a rip in it on the second day. But I have rambunctious boys and can not say in good conscience that it was not them with a toy that did it. (Update: my big baby of a dog has been sneaking up there when I am gone during the day.... errrrrr) If I were to rate this cover with a number 1 through 10, I would give it a 10 with the price it's at. It does it's job well, is not uncomfortable and it is really affordable.
