Wow, what timing! I have been anxious to check out a Fedco tree sale ever since they put a new warehouse in my town. I have heard you can get berry bushes and apple trees at great prices when they have their leftover sales. I saw the sign today, grabbed my mother and checked it out. They had aisles of bulbs and seeds in a penny candy fashion where you just pick your seeds, write the quantity and price on your bags and go. I was dying to see if they had any lilac bushes since I am obsessed with the flower. Alas, it is obviously the wrong time of year. No harm in checking though right? I found out I can pre-order them and pick them up at the next sale though. So now I have 3 bags of bulbs and not a clue on what to do with them. I live on really rocky/gravel/sandy soil and it seems that bulbs are the only plant that loves me here. I need help. Here are a couple of ireses I picked... (left to right) a japanese iris called Geisha Girl and a german bearded iris known as Superstition.
I'm happy to hear that help found me already! I heard about the Curbside Chaos makeover where the lucky winner got a $5,000 yard makeover with Taniya Nayak and sponsored by Bulbs. Dig, Drop, Done. Here's the video showing what they did.
Oh! The things I could do if I was the winner! Anyways, besides being extremely envious, I was really grateful because all the information I needed for helping me with my bulbs was right in front of me and you can visit www.digdropdone.com to learn more yourself by reading bulb101. You can also meet the ladies in the about us section and see who you relate with. I laugh at the idea of calling me a super mom but on the other hand I hear what she is saying with trying to make the most out of your time with all the household chores and kids activities and still have a beautiful place.
I needed a garden guru and now we all have one at our disposal. It is a very handy tool where you just punch in your location (which already calculates your type of soil) and when you want your flowers to bloom in the year and "voila!".. you have suggestions on flowers, instructions and helpful tips appear. Bulbed flowers are so great. They are easy to keep, they can spread, they can be for indoor or outdoor use and are great for cutting.
While you are hear, maybe you could take a second to do a charitable deed :) With every tweet using the hashtag #CurbsideChaos, Bulbs. Dig, Drop, Done will donate $1 to Rebuilding Together.. the nation's leading nonprofit, working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities. It only takes a second and you can feel good for doing so! To make it even easier, catch the bird that's flying around with your mouse and let the birdie tweet for you.
