Cleaning House by Kay Wills Wyma - a book review

Entitlement, sloppiness, laziness and disorganized is just a few of the negative adjectives that I can think of when it comes to my kids and their habits. I love them but they are these things and it's my own fault. I've allowed them to expect that if the house gets messy enough or things get neglected long enough that I will eventually step in and take care of it all.

This has been ongoing for quite some time and quite frankly I am sick of it. Since when did the act of making my child make their bed or do the dishes become 'overdoing it'. I thought normal families had their kids take turns with chores. I didn't want any pets... so why am I the only one that cleans up after them, washes them and feeds them? I'm just as clueless as you are! Well... that is about to change and I have the perfect guide to help me do this!

Cleaning House: A Mom's 12 Month Experiement to Rid Her Home of Youth Entitlement by Kay Wills Wyma is the perfect dose of reality and a helpful tips on how to take care of this ever growing issue. I can not tell you how excited I am to have this book in my possession! I'm not making this stand only to lighten the load on myself (although this is a huge reason I must admit) but it is also because I want my children to be growing closer to being a responsible adult. How do I expect them to take care of themselves when they aren't made to do anything? This will hinder them dramatically in life later on and I can't even imagine what the next generation will be like if we don't nip this is the bud!

Kay is a genius! The principals in the book are actually quite simple really but she's a genius for how she lays it out and how effective it really is. If you are looking to have your children be more active members in the family... you know... the way a team should be and if you want your house to be organized but not have it run your life, this book is for you. It is not boring at all, in fact I found it refreshing and quite funny at times... but most of all inspiring.

You can buy this book on Amazon and for your convenience, you can just click below. From one mom to another ... (or dad) this is a must have!

You can learn more about Kay by going to her blog titled Moat Blog ( because a Mother Of Adolescents and Teens should never walk [or drive] the road alone.)

I received this book for the purpose of review from Waterbrook Press. The opinions in this post are 100% my own and may differ from yours.
