Yanni, Truth of Touch

I like to change things up. Some of you are probably thinking 'This is obvious... she can't make up her mind on how she wants her blog to look!' This is true. I keep messing with a good thing until I get it just the way I want. I am still unhappy with some things on my blog, and trying to tweek it may result in a new layout :P I am fickle in everything... from my hobbies, my style in clothing, to my house decor and even my music.
I like listening to upbeat music to clean my house, my husband listens to hard rock that I can get into, I love disney movies and most of their soundtracks to play with the kids, classical at dinnertime and Enya to go to bed. It's not that I can't make up my mind, I just appreciate a wide variety of arts. That's why I was happy to review the new cd Truth of Touch by Yanni. This is his first instrumental release of original compositions in 8 years. It sounded like it would be a perfect fit into my relaxation/ going to bed music... and that it is.
I am in no way a music critic or expert by any means. So I feel quite under qualified to dive into the influences I hear or pick apart what things I thought could be changed. But, I can give you my honest opinion on what I think it sounds like and if I liked it or not. That is what I intend to do.
Even though I liked lots of different music, I feel quite sheepish saying that I was not familiar with Yanni before this review. I may have heard his music before, but I wouldn't be able to tell you who it was or what songs he did. So this was the first real sample of his compositions that I have heard. And the first thoughts that came to mind were that it was like a throwback to the 80's sound mixed in with an Enya feel. Very soothing and entrancing to listen to. The first song that came to mind for me to compare this to was the theme song from The Neverending Story composed by Giorgio Morodor. Now I know most of you out there are familiar with Yanni and his music. So you are probably out there saying to yourselves... 'what is she talking about?.. that isn't Yanni at all' I went on to youtube and listened to his earlier music. With the full orchestra sound, it is just beautiful what this man can do. This cd however, seems to have a different sound.
It has quite a variety of sounds that I heard. One seemed to have a latin flavor in it, while another that I heard sounded like it had a middle eastern flair. I found this album to be very relaxing and perfect to push the days stresses away. I did however, think the beat was a little much on a couple of the songs. There was one song in particular that I was really enjoying with a nice slow melody and then the mood to the song changed and the beat kicked in. It went from being one of my favorite picks to being one I may skip. But, I really did enjoy the album, I have it right in with my Enya collection to put on in the evening when I lay down.
Listen to what Yanni has to say on his new cd: "I work the rhythms in this album,” explains Yanni about the new material. “There is a beautiful complexity in these rhythms, a new sound design. I think the melodic content is very strong and very memorable. I was having fun with this album and that’s going to become apparent.”
Yanni will be going on a 40 date tour in the US! This tour will take him through theaters in many major cities across the country. To find out more on these dates and find out if he will coming near you click here. If you are not familiar with his music or need to be reminded, just go to youtube and search for him. You will find many videos of him in concert. If you appreciate the music you can just sit back and sink into, grab your copy of Yanni's Truth of Touch or any of his previous albums for that matter. You'll be glad you did!

I received a download of Yanni's album from One2One network for the purpose of review. The opinions in this post are 100% my own and my differ from yours. This is not a paid post.
