Nutri-Vet review and giveaway ...calling all dog owners!

This is one of my dogs Eko. He may not look impressed but he is a big baby. We added him to our family when our neighbors moved out of their home and left him chained to their porch. Another neighbor started feeding him but couldn't take him on because of her cat. So we got him right after we had decided to adopt our first pet Cali (a black lab).

Eko is the perfect pet in a lot of ways but one problem he has (and it seems to be that his breed is prone to this) is his itching. This dog will go and use the back end of our truck as his personal butt scratcher. The poor thing is always scratching against something. We have tried giving frequent baths and have been doing the brushing thing. Even though he loves it (the brushing... NOT the baths) it doesn't seem to be doing much for the itching. He actually has started wearing the fur down around his tail. So we went to Best Pet Health and gave Nutri-Vet Medicated Antibacterial Shampoo a try.

Active ingredient per teaspoon:
Triclosan – 0.2%

Inactive ingredients:
Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide DEA, Sodium Chloride, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Polyquaternium-10, Salicyclic Acid, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Citric Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone.

Tea Tree oil is used in many products to help with anything from acne, dandruff, cuts and burns to even prevention in lice. So it seemed like a great product to try on Eko's skin. We got our big baby in the bath tub and started scrubbing him up. The shampoo has a really nice smell to it. I can't quite figure it out but it reminds me of outdoors and mint lol.
Now, I will say that the poor mutt still itches. He sheds a lot and as I mentioned above his breed is prone to skin problems and itching. I have noticed however (after a couple of uses) his skin looks a little better, especially down by his tail. It does not look as irritated which means it can't bother him as much and he definitely smells better :) We can get closer to him without feeling dirty because he doesn't seem as 'nasty'. By 'nasty' I mean, he is usually shedding and feels a little on the oily side which is why I think he is so uncomfortable most of the time. We have only given him a few baths with this shampoo but it is safe enough to use everyday. I just haven't used it everyday because who honestly would put that gentle giant who hates baths in the tub daily? This shampoo is gentle and safe for all dog breeds if used as directed.

My thoughts on the shampoo:
I would say it does what it says. Eko may have not stopped itching but it doesn't claim to do that. It says it will temporarily control and soothe your pet's dry, itchy and flaky skin caused by seborrhea or non-specific dermatitis while removing excess scales, oils and dry skin. I have seen the evidence of the removing of oils and improvement in the skin where he scratches most, so I can only assume it is soothing his irritation as well.

Best Pet Health offers many different products for your pets and I found their site quite helpful and easy to use. It gives you the general information on the product along with all ingredients, explanations of their key components ( ex: foaming agent and skin protectant ) and also gives you the best uses. I like how they break everything down for you so you understand what is in the product and learn more about what is being used on your pets. All dog shampoos are sold for $6.49 for a 16oz bottle. I feel this is a fair price especially with the ones that are for special conditions. With a purchase of $45 or more, you get free shipping as well. So plan your shopping right and do it all at once, you can get a great deal on good products. You can read more on their shampoos by clicking here.
