Back in December I had the opportunity to review an adorable book called Kathryn The Grape - Just Like Magic by Kathryn Cloward. It was about a girl who has a special friend named Maggie who gives her a magic wand. With this wand, Maggie teaches Kathryn to overcome obstacles and use the wand correctly so that she does only good with it. The illustrations were mesmerizing and the story was a charming lesson for kids.
Well, now I would like to tell you about the second book, Kathryn The Grape's Colorful Adventure. This sequel has the same great mesmerizing illustrations, but I feel this lesson was even better. This time, Kathryn is discouraged and feeling unloved by her family because she doesn't feel they listen to her. Maggie gives Kathryn a magical charm bracelet and shows her how colorful she is. Each charm represents a trait that Kathryn doesn't see in herself. Each time one is revealed and she understands, the charms glow. Finally when the adventure is over and she's learned from each charm, the bracelet shines in a rainbow of colors. When the adventure is over, she realizes that her family does love her and she loves them too but she needs to express her feelings without anger so everyone can listen to each other.
This book would make a great Christmas or birthday gift for that special little girl, especially if it was accompanied by a charm bracelet. I will be passing this one on to the same little girl that got the last one (my niece) and with it I will add charms specifically for her. She needs the same reminders that Kathryn got and this is a great way to do that for her, especially when she is feeling down. Not to mention, she loved the first book so giving her the second is a no brainer :)
