The Plot:
Marcella and her native-american husband Quinn, are antique shop owners that can barely make the mortgage each month. They don't have any kids, but Quinn's bird Ruby is the apple of their eye... or at least Quinn's and Thelma's eyes. Marcella's mother ,Thelma, treats Ruby as her only grandchild.
When the opportunity comes for Ruby to get shown off at a bird contest in the Adirondacks, Thelma pays for the whole trip and Ruby is entered for the category of Best New Color. Before the big contest begins, Thelma and Ruby, have an accident. Thelma falls, bumping her head, and slips into the pool with the bird. A shock from an electrical current occurs. Thelma is brought to the hospital but is now starting to spout off Ruby's phrases while the bird is speaking like Thelma.
Right after the contest, Marcella and Quinn, find out that Thelma has been kidnapped right out of the hospital bed! Now it is time for them to not only find Thelma, but find out about the past as well. Questions start racking up and it is time to find answers. Oh, what a tangled web some people can weave! The search is on and with Ruby, now equipped with 'Thelma Telepathy', she might just be the key to unlocking the mystery of where she has gone.

My thoughts:
It may have been that I am on a horrible schedule and seem to be exhausted half the time, but I was hysterically laughing on the second page in. I mean, it was really cracking me up! It reminded me of how my husband and I are together and I could not get enough of the humor in this book.
The characters were realistic and easy to fall in love with. Paul did a great job writing in a women's perspective. Although... I do have to say... Quinn seemed a little too 'tall, dark and handsome' at times, but you couldn't help liking him and his O.C.D habits.
One thing that Aaron keet me guessing on was where a certain "treasure was buried" in the book. I think he came up with a brilliant scenario for this, making it the perfect curtain call.
For The Birds is the first in his new Tall Pines mystery series. Even though at times I found it to be a little predictable, I enjoyed it immensely and look forward to it's sequel, Essentially Yours, coming out in March of 2012.
