At school, my boys have been learning about keeping healthy teeth. They have been coming home with the books, stickers, toothbrushes and paste. So I think it would be perfect to incorporate this into my blog and have a day devoted to keeping healthy teeth. This will be the tool that is hard to find, at least for me, in the store kits. This tool is used to locate calculus deposits, tooth surface irregularities, defective margins on restorations, decalcified areas and carious lesions. It is made from the highest quality materials and is made to lasts longer. With the plastic versions, they get bent easy, dirty and never last long... again if you get a good explorer in your kit at all. It is also designed to minimized user fatigue in using this product.
I could definitely feel the imperfections when I used this. It makes cleaning easier because it points everything out for you. I could feel it right away.

I love the Explorer but this tool is probably my favorite and most used tool. The scaler or what I always call the scraper, is what gets all that plaque and tartar off. With all of these tools you need to be careful but especially with this one. The points are very sharp and you can definitely do some gum damage if you don't know what you are doing and just go at it. I was fortunate enough to have 2 of my friends be a dental assistant at one time and got some pointers. But I have also looked online for good tutorial videos. You can find quite a few on Youtube if you type in what tool you would like to learn to use.
This scraper is very comfortable to use, definitely high quality and works like a charm. I was able to get way in back where my bottom wisdom teeth are and get around them. The handle is perfect and you can get in between the teeth at the right angle very easily. The only thing I want to stress is...again... these are not the cheapies you get in the store and are extremely sharp. So I definitely want to put in a big 'Be Careful'. You do not want to do gum damage or poke yourself silly.

The last tool in the kit, is of course, the mirror. Actually it is really the stem, they give you the simple face mirror head with it. You just unscrew it to change it out. I can't use this very well for the mirror fact since it is hard for me to see it and I get it easily fogged up, however it is very useful for me to push out the cheeks or lips to get at cleaning the teeth.
